Indonesian Film Festival is a series of screening, presentation and discussion of development of cinema in Indonesia. To introduce the culture of cinema, the history, the grow, the challenge and it’s in the development of Indonesia as a culturally diverse nation. The films shown is a reflection of contemporary Indonesian society, and also a good window to see the beauty of Indonesian culture and visual landscape.

The Indonesian Film Festival in Netherlands highlight the works of writer and director Riri Riza of Miles Films. Riri’s film known as not only pushing the boundaries of genre convention and the production value quality of Indonesian film, that makes his film invited to be screen in many film festivals around the world. But also, his films are appreciated by Indonesian audience and made box office records.

The film shown in this festival is also mark Riri Riza’s 15th years of film career in developing the multiculturalism and freedom of expression in the medium of cinema in Indonesia.   

Screening of selected short films by emerging filmmakers choosen picked by Riri Riza, discussion and meet & greet the actors that accompany the festival will be a great opportunity to understand the challenge and future potential of Indonesian Cinema.

 

10897344065?profile=originalRiri Riza graduated from the Film Department of the Jakarta Arts Institute, earned a Master’s degree in Feature Screenwriting from the Royal Holloway University in London. Riri Riza is a partner in film production company Miles Films founded by producer Mira Lesmana.

ELIANA, ELIANA won Young Cinema award and FIPRESCI at the 2002 Singapore International Film Festival, also The Special Jury prize at the Vancouver International Film Festival. GIE is his 4th feature film, won the best picture in Asia Pacific Film Festival and also best picture in Indonesian Film Festival 2005. 3 DAYS TO FOREVER won Best Director award at the 35th Brussels International Independent Film Festival in 2008. THE RAINBOW TROOPS (2008) was Indonesia’s alltime box-office records, was selected for Berlin International Film Festival 2009.

THE  DREAMER, won Audience Awards in Udinese Far East Film Festival in Italy. ATAMBUA 39o Celsius is the first crowd funded film project in Indonesia, premiered in competion section of Tokyo International Film festival 2011, and won best picture in Indonesian Film Appreciation Award. THE JUNGLE SCHOOL won the Audience Awards in Fukuoka Focus on Asia International film festival 2014.

Born in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia in 1970. Riri Riza is a co-founder of Rumata’artspace in Makassar and founded the annual SEAscreen Academy, a filmmaking training for young filmmakers of east Indonesia, and forum for Young South East Asian directors.
